Privacy policy

Varnip does not ask for an account and does not save what you type. The sections below say exactly what is counted, what your browser keeps and what happens if you write to us.

Does Varnip see what I type?

No. What you type is encoded in your browser and is not sent to our servers: in our tests, none of the requests the Barcode Generator or the QR Code Generator made carried it, a Wi-Fi password or a message included. Varnip does not store it. When you use Share, your device hands the file to the app you pick; Varnip does not receive it.

Does Varnip see my location?

Only if you ask, and it is not sent to our servers. On the QR Code Generator, “Use my location” asks your browser for your position, and your browser asks you first. The coordinates fill the place field in your browser, go into the QR code you make, and are not sent to our servers. No other Varnip page can ask for your location.

What does Varnip count?

Varnip counts how the generators are used, without anything that identifies you. When a generator page starts, cannot start in your browser, is ready or fails, and when you ask for a download or share a file, the page sends one short message that says what happened; on the Barcode Generator, a batch and a print are counted too. The message holds the event, the generator, the barcode format or the kind of QR code (Website, Wi-Fi, Contact and the other kinds the page offers), the file type (SVG, PNG or ZIP), a number such as the batch size, and a time in milliseconds. A download is counted when you ask for the file; the page cannot know whether your browser saved it.

If something fails, the message also holds which part of the generator failed and the type of error, both from short fixed lists. It never holds the error text, what you typed, or where in the code it happened.

Each message also holds a short code naming the version of Varnip you used. When the page starts, when it cannot start and when something fails, the message also holds your screen width in three broad bands. When the message arrives, Cloudflare tells our code your country, the code of the data center that served you (not stored with errors) and your browser family (for example Chrome, Safari, or a browser inside another app), and Varnip stores them with the date and time. Your browser's version and full browser string are not stored.

These counts are fixed lists and numbers. They never include what you type, the text of an error, a web address, your IP address, or an ID for you or your visit. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the page sends none of these messages.

Varnip uses these data only to keep the site working, find faults, stop abuse of the counting endpoint and answer the messages you choose to send. The usage counts do not hold your IP address or anything else that identifies you. Counts are kept for three months.

What does my browser keep?

Varnip saves one setting in your browser for the Barcode Generator, and one shared by the QR Code and GS1 Digital Link generators: the PNG resolution (300 or 600 dpi) you last picked. Each is stored in your browser's local storage, written only when you change it, so the page can open with the same choice next time; it is not used for anything else and is never sent to Varnip. To remove it, clear this site's data in your browser settings; the page then starts from its default again.

What do Cloudflare and the server logs see?

Varnip is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver each page, Cloudflare processes your request, including your IP address, under its own privacy policy. Requests to the counting endpoint, scripts, fonts and the llms.txt file also run a small program of ours, and Cloudflare keeps a log of each of those requests for seven days, which Varnip reads only to find faults. For each count it refuses, our code writes the reason (for example, too large or from another site) to that log; when a script or font file is missing, the log records which file. When a known search or AI crawler reads llms.txt, Varnip counts which crawler it was; reads by people are not counted. To stop abuse, the counting endpoint limits how often one IP address can send a count; Varnip's code does not store that address.

What happens when I write to you?

If you email hello@varnip.com, Varnip receives your email address and what you write, and uses them only to answer you. Messages are kept for 12 months after the last message in the conversation. Your email passes through Cloudflare Email Routing, which forwards it to Varnip's private mailbox, hosted by Hostinger. You do not have to give Varnip any personal data to use the generators.

What does “Copy details” do?

When the generator fails, it can show a block of technical details: your browser and its version, your screen, which features your browser supports, your settings, the last actions on the page and what failed. On the QR Code Generator, the settings in it are the kind of code, the damage protection, the size and the resolution, never what you typed. The block is built on your device and shown before you copy it. It is not sent anywhere unless you paste it into an email to us.

How long is it kept?

Usage counts: three months. Logs of requests to Varnip's code: seven days. Messages to Varnip: 12 months after the last message in the conversation. The resolution settings: until you clear them in your browser. Varnip's code keeps no list of IP addresses.

Where is the data processed?

Varnip is hosted on Cloudflare, which runs servers in many countries, so data about your visit can be processed outside the country where you live.

What are my rights?

You can ask Varnip whether it holds data about you, to show it to you, to correct it or to delete it. The only data Varnip can look up by person is your email address and your messages. The usage counts hold nothing that points to you, and the request logs are not linked to a name or an email address and are deleted after seven days. Write to privacy@varnip.com. Varnip answers within 15 days and does not charge for it.

How do I complain?

If you think Varnip has handled your data unlawfully, write to privacy@varnip.com; Varnip will answer you.

Who is responsible?

Varnip is run by Guilherme Campos, who decides why and how the personal data on this page is handled. To ask about your data, write to privacy@varnip.com.

Who is Varnip for?

Varnip is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children.
