About Varnip

Varnip is an independent project, not a company: a set of free generators that run in your browser. It is made and kept up by one independent developer. Three are live today: Barcode Generator, QR Code Generator and GS1 Digital Link Generator.

What is Varnip?

Varnip is a set of free generators that run in your browser. Each one does a single job: it draws a barcode for a number you already have, writes a QR code for a website, a Wi-Fi network, a contact or another kind of content, or writes the GS1 Digital Link address for a product number (GTIN) you already have, in a QR code or a Data Matrix. You choose the options, see the result on the page and download a PNG or an SVG file. There is no sign-up and no account.

Why does Varnip exist?

Varnip exists to give you a code generator that does one job and tells you plainly what was checked and what was not. Each generator page lists the documents it relies on, with a link to each, and points to a page that explains how the output is tested.

Who makes Varnip?

Varnip is made and kept up by one independent developer, as an independent project and not as a company. The work started in 2026, and the site went live on October 5, 2026. Varnip is the brand, and "we" on these pages means that one person. The developer's name appears only in the privacy policy, which names who is responsible for your data. Every message sent to hello@varnip.com is read by that person.

How is Varnip checked before release?

The developer is responsible for everything published here, and the tests described on the How we test page run before every release.

Who is Varnip for?

Varnip is for anyone who needs one of these codes: someone with a product number who needs its barcode drawn at a chosen printed size, someone who wants a QR code for a link, a Wi-Fi network or a contact, and someone who needs the GS1 Digital Link address for a product number they already have. Varnip is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children.

What principles does Varnip follow?

Varnip follows four principles, and you can check each one on the pages.

How do I know the generators work?

You can read how each generator is tested on the How we test page. In short, the tests make files for known inputs, some of them drawn in three browser engines, read each file back with a software decoder, and stop the release if the text that comes back is not the text that went in. The page also lists what the tests cannot show, such as how a phone camera or a store scanner reads a printed code.

Is Varnip free to use?

Yes: the generators are free to use today. There is no paid plan, no sign-up and no account. Today the developer pays what it costs to run Varnip.

What is coming?

Five more generators are on the way: Address Labels, Bingo Cards, Word Search, Crossword and Name Badges. They get their own page, and a link, when they are ready.

How can I reach Varnip?

You can write to hello@varnip.com. The one person who makes Varnip reads every message. Use it for a problem with a generator, a barcode that does not look right, or a correction to something on the site. The contact page says how messages are handled, and the privacy policy explains your rights over your data.
